In recent months, the emerging area of agentic commerce has accelerated with backing from major payment platforms like Visa, Mastercard, Paypal and Stripe. However, there are technological shortfalls to enable fully automated shopping which is both scalable and reliable to realize the future agent economy.

However, to fully automate shopping, the ‘chat’ for implementing the complete transaction needs to be agent-driven, conducted on behalf of consumers. You still need standardized protocols with a legal framework to facilitate reliable and scalable commercial transactions between AI agents.”
